PPAO vs CMHA: Letters to Ministers, Community Agencies
Folks, the Coalition for an Independent PPAO group now has some letters to send to stakeholders and interested parties. This is our website.
We must act now. It appears that this is meant to be implemented within weeks.
First, please adjust and send the following to Deb Matthews, Ontario Minister of Health and Long-Term Care <firstname.lastname@example.org>; Christine Elliott, Conservative Health Critic <email@example.com>; and France Gelinas, NDP Health Critic <firstname.lastname@example.org>.
Dear Honorable Deb Mathews,
I am writing to you to ask you to rescind the decision of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) to transfer the Psychiatric Patient Advocate Office of Ontario (PPAO) to the control of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario. This was announced to selected stakeholders in a letter written by Jessica Li, Assistant Deputy Minister on June 28, 2011.
This decision is wrong. It constitutes a clear and dangerous conflict-of-interest; it also would constitute a serious threat to the independence of PPAO.
I ask you to publicly reject this conflict-of-interest and assert the full support of the MOHLTC for independence for the PPAO.
I look forward to your reply.
Cc: Christine Elliott, Conservative Health Critic
France Gelinas, NDP Health Critic
Next, if you are affiliated with any service groups or community organizations, please forward this to anyone of interest:
I am writing to inform you that the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) has announced their decision to have the Canadian Mental Health Association, Ontario office take control over the Psychiatric Patient Advocate Office of Ontario (PPAO).
This planned takeover has been officially announced to a select group of stakeholders, but without public announcement or consultation. This decision by the MOHLTC constitutes a clear and dangerous conflict-of-interest and is a serious threat to the independence of the PPAO.
I ask [your organization/association] and your members to publicly denounce this conflict-of-interest and assert [your organization/association]’s full support of independence for the PPAO.
Please forward this to all your [organization/association] members immediately, as the Ministry has indicated their intent to push this through within weeks. We must act now for an independent PPAO.
I look forward to the support of [organization/association] and your reply.
